North Missouri Solid Waste Management District Invites Public Input on Regional Plan Updates in Livingston County.
The North Missouri Solid Waste Management District (NMSWMD) announced an upcoming public meeting in Chillicothe, Mo. to gather essential feedback on proposed updates to the region's Solid Waste Management Plan. Area residents and stakeholders are strongly encouraged to attend and share their insights on current and future needs for recycling and solid waste disposal in our region, and ideas for reuse and recovery strategies to help divert materials from the landfill.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 2 pm to 4 pm, at the
Chillicothe City Hall located at 715 Washington Street, Chillicothe, Mo.
The North Missouri Solid Waste Management District is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive plan to manage solid waste across its 11-county region.
This plan is crucial for ensuring environmentally sound and economically viable waste disposal practices, promoting recycling, and conserving natural resources within the region. Maps will be available to view the current solid waste services offered in our region that serves Caldwell, Carroll, Chariton, Daviess, Grundy, Harrison, Linn, Livingston, Mercer, Putnam, & Sullivan Counties.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the proposed plan updates, ask questions, and provide direct input on a range of topics, including:

Existing recycling programs and potential expansions.

Challenges faced with current waste disposal options.

Ideas for improving waste reduction and diversion efforts.

Specific needs of rural communities within the district.

Hazardous household waste.

Compostable materials
